The work of sound artist Wannes Deneer blurs the lines between performance and visual art. He combines his background as a product developer and scenographer to create raw sound performances that materialise, recycle and visualise kinetic energy and sound.
Wannes wants to share the techniques at the origin of sound. He turns everyday objects -such as coffee cups, porcelain bowls, desk lamps and door handles- into performers and musical instruments. Sound becomes music. Objects and sounds create movement. Objects come to life.
With his non-profit organisation Matter of Sound (MOS), Wannes surrounds himself with artists from other genres, such as recently Yinka Kuitenbrouwer (theatre) and Ugo Dehaes (dance). Besides his own work, he also creates set and sound designs for theatre companies including fABULEUS, hetpaleis and De Nwe Tijd.
In 2024-2025 both Speaking Characters and RrrRrrrrRrrrrrrrr are reprised. They will be both available for next season. More information about Speaking Characters can be found here.
